Event ID 5007 is logged in the Application log every time that you start a Windows Vista-based computer

SYMPTOMS

Every time that you start a Windows Vista-based computer, the following event is logged in the Application log: Event Source: WerSvc

Computer: ComputerName
Description: The target file for the Windows Feedback Platform (a DLL file containing the list of problems on this computer that require additional data collection for diagnosis) could not be parsed. The error code was 8014FFF9.

This problem occurs when you install the software update that is mentioned in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 931174. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of the behavior of the Windows Error Reporting Service (WerSvc). If the manifest file (Wertargets.wtl) is in an expired state when the Windows Error Reporting Service starts, Windows Error Reporting Service logs Event ID 5007. This is the expected behavior of Windows Error Reporting Service. However, the manifest file expires when the service starts. Therefore, Event ID 5007 is logged every time that the computer starts.

Note This event does not indicate that a problem exists on the computer. You can safely ignore this event.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
