Could not read database name or server name.

This problem occurs when the update process starts.

CAUSE

This problem may occur because the company program file is still associated with Microsoft Small Business Accounting 2006 even though Microsoft Small Business Accounting 2006 was uninstalled from the computer.

Note The company program file appears as an .sbc file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Upgrade the database

  1. Start Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007.
  2. In the "Start - Microsoft Office Accounting" window, click Restore a backup.

  8. Click Yes if you are prompted by the following message:

Company_name.sbc already exists. Do you want to replace it?

  9. Click OK if you receive the following message:

The restore process was completed successfully.

  10. Start Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007.

    Notes
    • The company database file appears as an .sbd file.
    • By default in Microsoft Small Business Accounting 2006, the data files are in the following location:

      C:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ\Data

If you cannot locate the company database in this location, search for the .sbd file type on the hard disk.
