The hotfix that is discussed in this article is not available for the Chinese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM or for the Japanese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the "Data Migration Wizard for Outlook with Business Contact Manager" to migrate many records in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, you receive the following error message:

Application Terminated: Unable to write into CDF database.
Application Terminated: Unable to insert records into CDF.

Note The "Data Migration Wizard for Outlook with Business Contact Manager" is included in the Data Migration Pack for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0.

This problem occurs when you use the "Data Migration Wizard for Outlook with Business Contact Manager" to migrate more than 500,000 records.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 update rollup that contains this hotfix.

Installation information

Install this hotfix on computers that are running the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server software together with the "Data Migration Wizard for Outlook with Business Contact Manager." After you apply the hotfix, make sure that the following registry entries exist in the registry:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MSCRM Migration Framework\CommandTimeOut (0x00010001)


Note The default DWORD value of this registry entry is 999999.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MSCRM Migration Framework\FileAcqSleepTime (0x00010001)


Note The default DWORD value of this registry entry is 4000.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MSCRM Migration Framework\ReducedCommitSize (0x00010001)


Note The default DWORD value of this registry entry is 0.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MSCRM Migration Framework\MaxAttempts (0x00010001)


Note The default DWORD value of this registry entry is 40.

Prerequisites

You must have Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

If you are prompted to restart the computer, you must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Removal information

To remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000, use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. System administrators can use the Spuninst.exe tool to remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000.
