SYMPTOMS
When you use SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration to schedule a one-time timer job in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 during daylight saving time (DST), the job may be delayed by at least one hour. For example, you may experience the following symptoms:
- You click Perform a backup to set up a backup operation. However, the backup job is delayed. It takes at least one hour before the backup job starts. If you include indexes in the backup, it may take two hours before the backup job starts.
- You click Restore from backup to set up a restore operation from a backup. However, the restore job is delayed. It takes at least one hour before the restore job starts.
In addition to backup jobs and restore jobs, examples of one-time timer jobs include the following:
- Migration
- Content deployment
- Provision Web application
- Publishing
You do not experience these issues when you use SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration to schedule one-time timer jobs during standard time.

The Windows SharePoint Timer service does not update its internal time when Microsoft Windows makes the transition from standard time to DST or from DST to standard time. Therefore, after you apply this hotfix, you must restart the Windows SharePoint Timer service after each transition from standard time to DST and after each transition from DST to standard time. If you do not restart the Windows SharePoint Timer service, timer jobs that you schedule may be delayed. Or, they may fail.
For example, in the year 2007, DST in the United States ends on November 4. Therefore, before you perform a one-time timer job when the transition from DST to standard time occurs on November 4, 2007, you must first restart the Windows SharePoint Timer service.
To restart the Windows SharePoint Timer service, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
- In the list of services, right-click Windows SharePoint Services Timer, and then click Restart.
