FIX: Error message when you run an MDX query against a database in SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2: “An unexpected exception occured”

Article ID: 937829

Article Last Modified on 6/22/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services

SYMPTOMS

When you run a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query against a database in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services Service Pack 1 (SP1), the query takes a long time to finish. This problem occurs if the query contains one of the following calculation operators:

  • +
  • -

After you install SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services Service Pack 2 (SP2), you receive the following error message when you run the same query:

An unexpected exception occured.

Note In this error message, the word "occured" is a misspelling for the word "occurred."

Additionally, minidump files are generated in the SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services log folder.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of a regression in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services SP2.
