You experience this problem if the following conditions are all true:

  • You visit the Web site over a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection.
  • You use a proxy server to connect to the Web site.
  • The Web site uses NTLM authentication to access the Web page.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To install this hotfix, use one of the following methods:

  • If the computer requires the security updates that are part of the QFE branch of the 939653 security update, install the 939653 security update in the typical manner. This action installs the security updates together with the General Distribution Release (GDR) hotfixes.
  • If the computer already has the appropriate security updates installed, install the GDR hotfixes by running the 939653 security update package together with the /b option. This action forces the installation of the GDR hotfixes that are included with the 939653 security update.
