Article ID: 935955

Article Last Modified on 5/3/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. On a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-based computer, you open the My Pictures folder in Media Center. Then, you click Import to import pictures from a connected scanner. In this scenario, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

No Pictures were found. Either there are no pictures, or you are viewing an empty folder

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Import feature in the My Pictures folder is designed to work with digital cameras or with memory cards but not with scanners.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:

  • Use the scanning software that was included with the scanner to import pictures from the scanner to the folder that contains your pictures.
  • Use the "Scanners and Cameras" feature to import pictures from the scanner to the folder that contains your pictures. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type sticpl.cpl, and then click OK.
    2. Right-click the scanner, and then click Get picture using Scanner wizard.
    3. Click Next, and then follow the steps in the wizard.
