SYMPTOMS

When you use the SNA Trace Utility (Snatrace.exe) to enable Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 tracing, a Common Programming Interface for Communications (CPI-C) application may close unexpectedly. When the CPI-C application closes, an event that resembles the following may be logged in the Application log: Event ID: 4097
Event Source: DrWatson
Description:
The application, , generated an application error The error occurred on <Date> @ The exception generated was c0000005 at address <MemoryAddress>

Note The process ID (PID) of the CPI-C application that closes is included in the additional data in this event.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

WORKAROUND

This problem does not occur if Host Integration Server 2004 tracing is not enabled. To work around this problem, disable Host Integration Server 2004 tracing. To stop all Host Integration Server 2004 traces that are enabled, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004, point to Tools, and then click SNA Trace Utility.
  2. To stop all Host Integration Server 2004 traces that are enabled on the computer, click Clear All Traces.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Host Integration Server 2004 Service Pack 1.
