The Recovery Manager Rollback Wizard stops responding when you use the Bare Metal Recovery feature in Winternals Recovery Manager 3.0 to roll back a volume

Article ID: 935188

Article Last Modified on 7/20/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Winternals Recovery Manager 3.0

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Bare Metal Recovery feature in Winternals Recovery Manager 3.0 to roll back a volume, the Recovery Manager Rollback Wizard stops responding (hangs).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because there is no file structure on the volume that you try to roll back by using the Bare Metal Recovery feature. Therefore, the Recovery Manager Rollback Wizard cannot create a backup recovery point.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not exit the Recovery Manager Rollback Wizard when you use the Bare Metal Recovery feature, even if the Recovery Manager Rollback Wizard stops responding for a long time. The Recovery Manager Rollback Wizard will eventually perform the rollback even after the Recovery Manager Rollback Wizard appears to stop responding.

MORE INFORMATION

When you roll back a volume by using the Bare Metal Recovery feature, the Recovery Manager Rollback Wizard tries to create a backup recovery point so that you can roll back the volume to the current state. If you try to roll back a volume to a blank volume, the Recovery Manager Rollback Wizard cannot create the backup recovery point, because the volume does not contain a file structure.
