Introduction

This article describes what happens when you access an NTFS 4.0 file system partition from a Remote Recover host that is running Microsoft Windows 2000.

Note Remote Recover is a component of Winternals Administrator's Pak.

MORE INFORMATION

When you access an NTFS 4.0 file system partition from a Remote Recover host that is running Windows 2000, Windows 2000 converts the partition from NTFS 4.0 to NTFS 5.0. Therefore, some utilities, such as the Chkdsk.exe utility, cannot run correctly on the partition. Additionally, you must upgrade to Windows NT Service Pack 4 (SP4) or to a later version of Windows NT on the computer that hosts the partition. If you do not upgrade the service pack on the computer that hosts the partition, the computer may become unbootable.
