SYMPTOMS
When you try to install the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Advanced Client on a destination computer, the installation is not successful. When this problem occurs, the following event appears in the Security log:
This error code occurs when an incorrect password is used for a user logon account.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when an earlier push installation of the SMS Advanced Client was performed on the destination computer by using a different password. The problem may occur when a different network access account was used. Or, the problem may occur when the same network access account was used together with a different password.
In this situation, the Setup process (Ccmsetup.exe) tries to reinstall the SMS Advanced Client. The Setup process does not poll Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to see whether the network access account settings have been updated. Therefore, the Setup process uses the same account and password that was used in the previous installation.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use the "Advanced Client and Management Point Cleaner" (Ccmclean.exe) to remove the SMS 2003 Advanced Client. Then, reinstall the SMS 2003 Advanced Client. The "Advanced Client and Management Point Cleaner" is a component of the SMS 2003 Toolkit.
