To obtain software updates for the operating system on an Xbox 360 console, use the following methods:
- Update by using Xbox Live automatically
- Download the update to a computer, and then copy the update to a disc to use on the console
Download the update from Xbox Live
We recommend that you obtain updates by connecting to Xbox Live. We feel this is the best option because the console will be updated automatically when new system software is released.
To update an Xbox 360 console by using Xbox Live, you must have an Xbox Live Gold membership or an Xbox Live Silver membership and a high-speed connection. If you do not have an Xbox Live account but you do have a high-speed connection, you can create a free Xbox Live Silver membership. To do this, click the Xbox Live banner in the Xbox Live section of the Dashboard.
Download the update to a computer
You can also download the update from the Xbox.com Web site, copy the update to a disc, and then use the disc on the console. We recommend that you use this method if the console is not connected to a high-speed connection or if you use a dial-up connection to the Internet. You can even use this method from another location such as a friend's house, and then burn the update to a disc to take home to your console.
