When Automatic Updates is enabled in Microsoft Windows XP, the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications tool is downloaded automatically from Microsoft Update or from Windows Update.

After the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications tool is downloaded automatically, you must install the tool. This article describes how to do this when you first log on to Windows XP after the tool has been downloaded.

When you log on to Windows XP immediately after the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications tool is downloaded to the computer, the Software Update Installation Wizard may start. If the wizard does not start, the wizard runs the next time that you log on to Windows.

To install Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications, follow these steps:

  1. In the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications installation wizard, click Next.
  2. To confirm that you accept the license agreement, click to select I agree, and then click Next.
  3. Click Finish.

The installation and validation process finishes.
