Error message when you try to install Zoo Tycoon 2 on a Windows XP Professional 64-Bit Edition-based computer: "Installation of this game is not supported on this Operating System"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Zoo Tycoon 2: Marine Mania or Microsoft Zoo Tycoon 2: Zookeeper Collection on a Microsoft Windows XP Professional 64-Bit Edition-based computer, you receive the following error message:

Installation of this game is not supported on this Operating System

This issue occurs because the Setup programs for Marine Mania and for Zookeeper Collection were not configured for 64-bit operating systems.

This issue does not occur with Microsoft Zoo Tycoon 2 or with other Zoo Tycoon 2 expansion packs running on 64-bit operating systems.

RESOLUTION

Marine Mania

To install Marine Mania on a 64-bit operating system, you must use the new installer file from the Zoo Tycoon Web site. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Create a new folder on the desktop, and then name the folder Marine Mania Setup.
2. Insert the Marine Mania Setup disc in the CD drive or in the DVD drive.
3. Open the Marine Mania Setup disc in Windows Explorer.
4. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
5. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
6. Open the Marine Mania Setup folder.
7. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
8. Delete the 00002.tmp file.
9. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Text document.
10. Type 00002.tmp as the file name.
11. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/a/2/6a2fc197-04ad-4f6f-af1a-5d254c038085/Zoo Tycoon 2 - Marine Mania.msi

12. Download the "Zoo Tycoon 2 - Marine Mania.msi" file to the Marine Mania Setup folder.
13. In the Marine Mania Setup folder, double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the instructions to install Marine Mania.

Zookeeper Collection

To install Zookeeper Collection on a 64-bit operating system, you must use the new installer file from the Zoo Tycoon Web site. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Create a new folder on the desktop, and then name the folder Zookeeper Collection Setup.
2. Insert the Zookeeper Collection Setup disc in the CD drive or in the DVD drive.
3. Open the Zookeeper Collection Setup disc in Windows Explorer.
4. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
5. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
6. Open the Zookeeper Collection Setup folder.
7. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
8. Delete the 00002.tmp file.
9. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Text document.
10. Type 00002.tmp as the file name.
11. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/c/7/4/c74de12d-5d2c-40ac-a0ef-1b53c16f5af8/Zoo Tycoon 2 - Zookeeper Collection.msi

12. Download the "Zoo Tycoon 2 - Zookeeper Collection.msi" file to the Zookeeper Collection Setup folder.
13. In the Zookeeper Collection Setup folder, double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the instructions to install Zookeeper Collection.
