APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, a uuencoded MIME e-mail message attachment appears as garbled text in the body of the message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when a uuencoded attachment uses four digits to indicate the file mode. Exchange 2003 cannot parse these attachments. When four digits are present, Exchange 2003 does not recognize the attachment as uuencoded. Therefore, the attachment is rendered as garbled text.

RESOLUTION

After you apply this hotfix, uuencode attachments in four digits file mode are processed correctly.
