SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Money 2005 on a Windows Vista-based computer, the Program Compatibility Assistant dialog box appears. This dialog box contains a message that states that the program has compatibility issues with the operating system. This behavior occurs on all versions of Money 2005. This includes Microsoft Works Suite 2006 and includes the following versions of Money 2005:

  • The retail version.
  • The OEM version.
  • The stand-alone version.
  • The French language version.


Note This behavior may also occur in other language versions.


RESOLUTION

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:

  1. In Windows Vista, click Start[GRAPHIC: the Start button], type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

    [GRAPHIC: User Account Control permission] If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
  2. Locate and then click the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD.
  4. Set the name to {04702D0C-8A17-4591-B280-E61BE448722F}.
  5. Set the value to 3.
  6. Exit Registry Editor.


WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, ignore the Program Compatibility Assistant dialog box and install Money 2005.
