SYMPTOMS
When you try to connect to the Internet by using a dial-up or Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) connection on a Windows Vista-based Media Center PC, the Xbox 360 console cannot connect. You receive the following error message:
CAUSE
You experience this behavior if the appropriate firewall exceptions are not configured for the Media Center Extender.
THINGS TO TRY
Configure the firewall exceptions for the Extender for the new location. To configure or verify the configuration of Windows Firewall, follow these steps:
- Click Start

, type firewall.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. - In the Navigation Pane, click Allow a program through Windows Firewall.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. - On the Exceptions tab, locate and select Media Center Extenders, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION
If the Windows Vista-based Media Center PC connects to a new network after setup, the location type of the computer may change. Therefore, you may have to configure the firewall settings for the new location. If you do not reconfigure the firewall settings, the Xbox 360 console will be unable to connect.
Note You may also experience this behavior when you use a virtual private network (VPN) network connection.
