SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the Application Experience Lookup Service does not process files paths that contain more than 130 characters. Specifically, applications cannot look up these long file paths in the Windows Application Compatibility (AppCompat) database.

Note The Application Experience Lookup Service is responsible for verifying whether a particular .dll or .exe file is listed in the AppCompat database.

RESOLUTION

After you apply this hotfix, the Application Experience Lookup Service can process file paths that contain up to 259 characters.

To work around this problem, avoid using file paths that contain more than 130 characters.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
