The Slicers do not work when you display a ProClarity Business Reporter for Excel view by using Internet Explorer

SYMPTOMS

When you display a ProClarity Business Reporter for Excel view by using Windows Internet Explorer, the Slicers do not work. This issue occurs after you install ProClarity Business Reporter for Excel by using a silent installation.

CAUSE

During a standard installation, the installer examines the registry for a registry flag. The registry flag indicates that Internet Explorer must open Microsoft Office Excel worksheets in a separate Excel window and not in the browser window. If the registry flag is not set, the installer prompts the user to open Excel worksheets in a separate Excel window.

However, a silent installation skips all this logic. Therefore, the registry flag is not set.

RESOLUTION

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, set the registry flag manually. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xls\Excel.Sheet.8

  3. Double-click the BrowserFlags registry entry.

    Note If the BrowserFlags registry entry does not exist, follow these steps:
    1. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    2. Right-click the newly created registry entry, and then click Rename.
    3. Type BrowserFlags.
    4. Double-click the BrowserFlags registry entry.
  4. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, change the value in the Value data box to 8.
