SYMPTOMS

When you use the Find feature in Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 to locate a contact, the contact is found. However, the current status of the contact may be displayed as "Status unknown."

You may notice the following behavior in association with this problem:

  • This problem may not occur immediately, but may occur at a random interval after you start Communicator 2005.
  • This problem may temporarily resolve itself when you exit Communicator 2005 completely and then restart Communicator 2005.
  • Typically, this problem occurs for all contacts if the contacts were not added to your Contacts list.
  • The current status of the contact is updated correctly if the contact is added to your Contacts list.


RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.
