Windows Media Encoder 9 video files may not play back correctly on your Zune device

SYMPTOMS

Videos that were encoded by Windows Media Encoder 9 may not play back correctly on a Zune device. The audio may be out of sync with the video, or the video may not play back at all.

This issue has been reported for the following sample files that are included together with the Windows Media Encoder 9 program:

  • welcome.wmv
  • intermission.wmv
  • goodbye.wmv


CAUSE

This issue may occur when a problem in Windows Media Encoder 9 causes files to be encoded incorrectly.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Install the latest updates for Media Encoder 9. After you install the update, encode any files that did not play correctly before the update.
  2. Upgrade to a later version of Media Encoder. After you upgrade to a later version, encode any files that did not play correctly before the upgrade.
  3. If you do not update or upgrade Media Encoder 9, play video files other than the sample files that are mentioned in the Symptoms section.
