You cannot share Microsoft Points between a Zune account and an Xbox account

Article ID: 928590

Article Last Modified on 11/17/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Zune software
  • Zune Live
  • Zune Digital Media Player

SYMPTOMS

You cannot share Microsoft Points between a Zune account and an Xbox account.

CAUSE

You experience this behavior if you did not use your Xbox gamertag when you created your Zune tag during the Zune account creation process.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. When you set up your Zune account, enter your Xbox gamertag as your Zune tag when you are prompted.

MORE INFORMATION

After you create a Zune tag, you cannot change your Zune tag to match your Xbox gamertag for that Zune account.

If you do not enter your Xbox gamertag as your Zune tag when you create your Zune account, and you use a different tag instead, you cannot share Microsoft Points between your Zune account and your Xbox account. If you want to share points between these two accounts, you must create a new Zune account and then enter your Xbox gamertag when you are prompted. Note that you must use a U.S. Xbox account when linking with a Zune account.

Important If you abandon your existing Zune account to create a new Zune account so that you can link the new account to your Xbox gamertag, you cannot transfer the subscription or points that are associated with the original Zune account to your new Zune account.
