SUMMARY

This article discusses some helpful tips about how to troubleshoot issues that you may experience when you use the Zune software.

MORE INFORMATION

Obtain the latest troubleshooting information online

If you experience a problem when you use the Zune software, visit the following Web site:

In addition to information about common problems, this page includes links to various technical support resources such as the Zune ReadMe document.

Obtain detailed information about the Zune components that are installed on the computer

To see a list of the Zune components that are installed on the computer, follow these steps:

  1. Start the Zune software.
  2. Point to Help on the Options menu, and then click About Zune.
  3. In the "About Zune software" window, click Technical Support Information. Your Web browser will open a page that includes information about the related binary files, codecs, filters, plug-ins, and services that are installed on the computer. A technical support person can use this detailed information to help you troubleshoot problems on the computer.

Find information about the error codes that you may receive

Most dialog boxes that contain error messages include a Web Help button. If the computer is connected to the Internet, click the Web Help button to view the error code.

Error codes consist of eight alphanumeric characters. For example, you may see an error code such as C00D1197.

Note The letter "O" does not appear in error codes. If you see a character in an error code that resembles the uppercase letter "O," the character is the number zero.

Learn more about a particular error message

Most dialog boxes that contain error messages include a Web Help button. If the computer is connected to the Internet, click the Web Help button to view information that can help you resolve the problem.

Microsoft updates the information that appears on the Web Help pages as we learn more about potential causes of an error and solutions for the error. If you do not see a solution for an error, check back again later to determine whether a solution has been found.

Use the Error buttons and the Information buttons that may appear next to some items in the Zune library

Typically, when the Zune software encounters an error or another issue, a dialog box that contains an error message appears. However, in some cases, the Zune software might display an Error button [GRAPHIC: Error button] or an Information button [GRAPHIC: Information button] next to the item in the Zune library that has encountered an issue. Click the button to view a list of options that can help you resolve the problem or to view more details about the issue. For more information, you can also rest the mouse pointer on the button.
