APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Office Excel 2003
- Microsoft Excel 2002 Standard Edition
SYMPTOMS
You change the name of a field in the underlying database for an Analysis Services 2005 cube in Microsoft Excel 2002 or in Microsoft Office Excel 2003. You reprocess the Analysis Services 2005 cube, and then update a PivotTable report. When you do this, the field name change is not displayed.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because Excel 2003 and earlier versions of Excel were not designed to interact with Analysis Services 2005. Excel 2003 and earlier versions of Excel do not update the field name if the field is being used in the PivotTable report. Fields that are not being used in the PivotTable report are updated as expected.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, remove the field from the PivotTable report, and then add the field to the PivotTable report again. This process retrieves the new name for the field and displays the new name in the PivotTable report.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
