SYMPTOMS
In a cluster environment, when you try to install a Microsoft Exchange service pack on a node that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, you receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the name of the default mailbox store includes a comma (,) or another special character. For example, this behavior occurs if the display name of the default mailbox store resembles the following display name:
Mailbox Store,(Server_Name)

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, follow these steps:
- In Exchange System Manager, change the name of the default mailbox store to a name that does not include a comma or a special character. For example, change "
Mailbox Store
,(Server_Name
)" to "Mailbox Store
(Server_Name
)". - Install the Exchange service pack on the node.
- Change the name of the default mailbox store back to the original name.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
