When GroupWise uses the GroupWise connector to deliver a message that was delivered through the GWIA, an Exchange 2000 user may receive an NDR when the user replies to this message

Article ID: 924144

Article Last Modified on 10/27/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. An e-mail message is delivered to a Novell GroupWise domain through the GroupWise Internet Agent (GWIA). GroupWise uses the GroupWise connector to deliver this message to a server that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. Then, an Exchange 2000 user replies to this message. In this scenario, the user may receive a non-delivery report (NDR) message that resembles the following message:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached: [domain.com]: user on 10/18/2005 1:26 PM The e-mail address could not be found. Perhaps the recipient moved to a different e-mail organization, or there was a mistake in the address. Check the address and try again. The MTS-ID of the original message is: c=us; a=; p=First Organization; l=FDA-MAIL-011018172608Z-398 MSEXCH: SERVER-LME-GWISE: First administrative Group: AG-MAIL

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the latest service pack for Exchange 2000 and for Microsoft Windows is installed.

For more information about the latest service pack for Exchange 2000 and for Windows, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  2. Verify that mail flow is working as expected between the GroupWise server and the Exchange server.

If mail flow is not working as expected, install and configure the GroupWise connector. Then, establish mail flow between the GroupWise server and the Exchange server.
  3. Verify that the GroupWise clients can send and reply to Internet messages through the GWIA.
  4. Locate the Gwia.cfg file on the GroupWise server that is running the GWIA.

Note There may be more than one instance of this file. To determine the correct file, restart the GWIA service. Then, review the GroupWise log files to determine the Gwia.cfg file that is being used on the GroupWise server.
  5. Confirm that the Gwia.cfg file contains the /DIA switch in its configuration.
  6. Restart the GWIA service on the GroupWise server.
