SYMPTOMS
You insert a picture into a Microsoft Office 2007 document and then apply a shape to the picture. If you then increase the thickness of the line that borders the picture, the line stays completely on the outside edge of the picture as expected.
However, if you make the line that borders the picture very thick, the line does not wrap around each piece of the shape as expected. Instead, the line wraps around the outside edge of the picture. This results in "white space" around the edges of the picture.
A different process occurs when you create a shape and then apply a picture as a fill for the shape. In this case, when you increase the thickness of the line that borders the picture, the line centers on the edge of the shape and overlaps the picture fill.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the line that borders an inserted picture is treated as if it were a frame. The line will not overlap the picture when the thickness is increased.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, insert the shape with which you want to wrap the picture. Then, apply a picture as a fill for the shape. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Insert tab, click the shape that you want to use in the Shape gallery in the Shapes group.
- Right-click the shape, and then click Format Shape.
- Click the Fill tab, and then click Picture of texture fill.
- Click File, locate the picture that you want to use, and then click Insert.
- Click the Line tab, click Solid line, and then click the color that you want to use in the Color palette.
- Click the Line Style tab, type the line thickness that you want to use in the Width box, and then press ENTER.
- Click Close.
