  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007

When you select a custom range in a Microsoft Excel worksheet and then try to import data to link to shapes in a Microsoft Office Visio 2007 drawing, the data is not imported. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

The selected worksheet range cannot be imported.
Make sure the worksheet name does not contain leading spaces or any of the following reserved characters:
Accent ("`"), exclamation ("!"), or pound ("#").

This issue may occur when the worksheet name contains any of the following characters:

  • Leading spaces
  • Number sign
  • Exclamation point
  • Acute accent
  • Any low ASCII character (0 through 31)

To work around this issue, rename the worksheet in Excel. When you rename the worksheet, do not use any of the characters that are listed in the "Cause" section.
