SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

  • You are using a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2).
  • You are running Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 on this computer.
  • Internet Explorer 6 is configured to use a proxy server that is running Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server with SP2. ISA Server is running Symantec Web Security 3.0.1.76.
  • The proxy server adds a “Content-length: 0” header in response to a CONNECT request from Internet Explorer 6.

In this scenario, Internet Explorer 6 crashes when you try to access an HTTPS URL through the proxy server.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a bug in the Wininet.dll file.

RESOLUTION
