SYMPTOMS

When you try to synchronize a mobile device with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, the device continues to synchronize even when no items are left to synchronize.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if a corrupted e-mail message is in the mailbox.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Prerequisites

You must install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) before you install the hotfix package.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the following services are automatically stopped and then restarted when you apply this hotfix:

  • The World Wide Web Publishing service
  • The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service
  • The Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine service
  • The HTTP SSL service
  • The IIS Admin service
  • All other services that depend on these services

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other software updates.
