APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

When a user tries to synchronize calendar items on a mobile device with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, the user receives a SYNC_5 error. Additionally, duplicate calendar items are created on the Exchange server every time that the user tries to synchronize calendar items.

This problem occurs if you registered an event sink for the user's Calendar folder on the Exchange server.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the event sink contains code that modifies new items that are saved to the user's Calendar folder. In this case, when synchronization is started, DAV responses from the mailbox server do not contain a "ResourceTag" header. This causes the SYNC_5 error.

For example, this problem occurs if the event sink contains code that resembles the following code:

Sub IExStoreSystemEvents_OnSyncSave()
…
  If (lFlags And EVT_SYNC_BEGIN) > 0 Then
    …
  objRecord.Fields.Item("urn:schemas:exchint:someinfo").Value = "Some Extra Info"
    objRecord.Fields.Update
    …
  End If
…
End Sub
