CAUSE

These events indicate that the domain controller is missing the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) replication provider (ReplProv.dll). By default, this provider is not installed on Windows 2000-based servers. MOM 2005 Service Pack 1 requires several Active Directory WMI classes that are not present in the original release version of the Active Directory replication provider.

Note By default, the WMI replication provider is installed on servers that are running Microsoft Windows Server 2003. Therefore, this problem does not affect Windows Server 2003-based servers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the 889054 hotfix on every Windows 2000-based domain controller that experiences the problem. To obtain the 889054 hotfix, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

889054 You receive "Invalid Parameter (0x80041008)" error messages in the Microsoft Operations Manager Operator console

When you run the ReplProv.msi file on each domain controller, the file installs or updates the replication provider. Therefore, the Active Directory WMI classes are added to the WMI namespace.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
