APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

Data that is sent to an IBM Information Management System (IMS) application may be offset by one byte. This behavior occurs if the Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 Transaction Integrator (TI) application is defined to use an eight-byte TRANCODE value.

Note Any errors that might occur when the data is offset by one-byte are application dependent.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Transaction Integrator sends a one-byte filler between the TRANCODE value and the user data that will be sent to the IMS application. The one-byte filler is a space character. The hard-coded filler does not cause the user data to be offset when the TRANSCODE value is less than eight bytes long.

RESOLUTION

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, avoid the data offset by modifying the IBM application on the IBM mainframe. Modify the IBM application to account for the one-byte filler when an eight-byte TRANCODE value is used.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

After you apply this hotfix, Transaction Integrator does not send the one-byte filler to an IMS application if the TRANCODE value is eight bytes long. If the specified TRANCODE value is less than eight byes long, the one-byte filler is sent to the IMS application.
