  • Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Service Pack 1

SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

This article discusses a new tool that lets you create a Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 database on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard x64 Edition or Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise x64 Edition.

You may have a situation where you must host the MOM 2005 operational database on a computer that is running an x64-based edition of SQL Server 2005.

MORE INFORMATION

This hotfix contains the following features:

  • An x64-based version of the MomCreateDb.exe command-line tool

Note You can use this tool to create a MOM operational database on a computer that is running an x64-based version of SQL Server 2005. You cannot install a MOM data warehouse database on a computer that is running an x64-based edition of SQL Server 2005.

  • Support for MOM 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to use a remote operational database that is hosted on a computer that is running an x64-based version of SQL Server 2005

Note This support includes support for MOM components that run in native x86 mode together with components that run in WOW32 emulation mode.

  • Support for MOM 2005 Reporting SP1 to use a remote operational database that is hosted on a computer that is running an x64-based version of SQL Server 2005

Note This support includes support for MOM components that run in native x86 mode together with components that run in WOW32 emulation mode.

To support an x64-based version of SQL Server 2005 for use with a MOM operational database, you must locate the database on a computer other than the computer that is running MOM. Then, use the x64-based version of MomCreateDb.exe to install the operational database on the computer that is running an x64-based version of SQL Server 2005.

You can use the MomCreateDb.exe command-line tool to create a MOM database in one of the following environments:

  • An operational database on an active/active server cluster
  • A MOM database on an x64-based database server
  • Multiple MOM databases on different SQL Server instances that are located on the same computer
  • Multiple MOM databases on different SQL Server instances that are located on an active/passive server cluster
