SYMPTOMS
On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computer, you find that an application that uses the OLE DB Simple Provider (Msdaosp.dll) with Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 Service Pack 2 (SP2) will crash with an access violation. The same application will work correctly with earlier versions of MDAC.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because an overwrite occurs during an attempt to null-terminate a string. This overwrite was implemented as a security measure in MDAC 2.8 SP2. This overwrite corrupts the heap and causes the access violation.
