SYMPTOMS

The Overlay Mixer filter in Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 does not honor time stamps for video playback. When you play back video through the Overlay Mixer filter, the video plays through as quickly as it is decoded. Therefore, the video appears to be in fast forward mode.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the cBuffers property is set to 1. When the cBuffers property is set to 1, synchronization with the reference clock occurs during the call to the IMemAllocator::GetBuffer method and not the IMemInputPin::Receive method. The GetBuffer method cannot access an initialized IMediaSample property. The GetBuffer method uses the pStartTime property that is passed to the GetBuffer method when it calls the IReferenceClock::AdviseTime method. Therefore, the GetBuffer method is passed an incorrect time stamp value.
