SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, when you run the Exchange Server Migration Wizard (Mailmig.exe) by using the /m switch to migrate mailboxes from one Exchange Server organization to another, the migration fails. Additionally, if you use the Page Heap tool (Pageheap.exe) to monitor page heap corruption, the failure occurs when the very first mailbox is migrated.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem occurs only when you run the Exchange Server Migration Wizard in clone mode by using the /m switch. The problem does not occur when you run the Migration Wizard in the default GUI mode. However, if you run the Migration Wizard in GUI mode, users will lose their offline folder (.ost) files. Users will then have to synchronize their .ost files again.

When you run the Migration Wizard in clone mode, all data is copied. This data includes folder IDs, other special identifiers, and rules. After the migration, users can continue to work without any disruption.
