  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Software Developers

SYMPTOMS

When you use the VSSConverter command-line utility to migrate a German or French version of a Microsoft Visual SourceSafe database to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation source control, an extra file may also be migrated. This problem may occur when the Visual SourceSafe database has shared files.

The name of the extra file that is migrated is a concatenation of the name of the corresponding shared file and a share action string. Eventually, the tip version matching feature of Team Foundation deletes the extra file.

MORE INFORMATION

When you use the VSSConverter command-line utility in the scenario that is described in the "Symptoms" section, the shared file is migrated correctly. All the history that is related to the shared file before the share action process is also migrated. However, you may encounter history problems if you rename the parent project folder of the child file before you migrate the database.

The VSSConverter command-line utility analyzes Visual SourceSafe databases for migration to Team Foundation source control. The utility also migrates Visual SourceSafe databases to Team Foundation source control.

The VSSConverter.exe file is located in the Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE folder. You can also use the VSSConverter command-line utility at the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt.
