INTRODUCTION

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

  • You install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 on a computer that has hardware-enforced Data Execution Prevention (DEP) enabled. After you do this, you cannot use some of the TIFF Optical Character Recognition (OCR) components in Microsoft Office 2003 Document Imaging (MODI) as part of a document imaging solution. When you try to use the TIFF OCR components in MODI, you may receive the following error message:

    OCR was not successful (no text was found) on one or more pages.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Performance.
  3. On the Data Execution Prevention tab, click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select, and then click Add to add the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program.

    Note The Microsoft Office Document Imaging executable file is located at the following path:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MODI\Version\MSPVIEW.exe

    In this path, Version is the version of Office that you are using. For example, if you are using Office 2003, the version is 11.0.
