SYMPTOMS

A memory leak may occur in the Svchost.exe process that hosts cryptographic services in Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:

  • You use the VShadow.exe program to export Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) backup data from a data server.
  • You import the VSS data to a backup server by using a third-party program that uses VSS.

In this case, a memory leak may occur in the Cryptsvc.dll file.

RESOLUTION
