SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, you run a stored procedure in a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database. The stored procedure uses a parameter of the TEXT data type. In this scenario, only the first 16 characters of the value of the parameter are returned.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. You must restart the computer if the database is used when you apply the hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the data type of the parameter from the TEXT data type to the VARCHAR(MAX) data type.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was corrected in Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1.
