A Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 list that you added to Outlook 2007 is not synchronized with the server after you close the SharePoint Lists.pst file in Folder List view

Article ID: 917033

Article Last Modified on 4/25/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, when used with:
    • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You add a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 list to Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. For example, you add the Calendar from a Windows SharePoint Services Web site to Outlook 2007. Then, you switch to Folder List view. In Folder List view, you right-click the folder that represents the SharePoint Lists.pst file, and then you click Close "SharePoint Lists". Then, you click Yes when you receive the following message:

If you close "SharePoint Lists", the connection to the server will be permanently removed. If you reopen the file on your computer, changes will not be synchronized with the server. Do you want to continue?

In this scenario, the Windows SharePoint Services list that you added to Outlook 2007 is not synchronized with the list in the Windows SharePoint Services Web site. You experience this symptom even if you reopen the SharePoint Lists.pst file in Outlook 2007.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because you are disconnected from the server that is running Windows SharePoint Services when you close the SharePoint Lists.pst file in Outlook 2007. When you are disconnected from the server, all links to data in the Windows SharePoint Services list are removed. And, the list is no longer synchronized with the server.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, reconnect the Windows SharePoint Services list to Outlook 2007. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Connect to the Windows SharePoint Services Web site, and then open the list.
  2. Click Actions, and then click Connect to Outlook.
  3. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm that you want to add the folder to Outlook 2007.

MORE INFORMATION

If you do not want Outlook 2007 to be disconnected from the server that is running Windows SharePoint Services, click No when you receive the message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
