Graphs with TrueType Fonts Print Incorrectly on HP DeskJet 500

ID: Q91665

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 3.1
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 4.0, 4.0a

SUMMARY

When you print to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet 500 printer using the HPDSKJET.DRV printer driver version 1.1 or 1.2 for Microsoft Windows version 3.1, graphs that contain TrueType font formatting may print incorrectly. This problem occurs in graphs created in Microsoft Graph and charts created in Microsoft Excel for Windows.

MORE INFORMATION

If you set the resolution in the printer driver to 300 dots per inch (dpi), the TrueType fonts in the printed chart or graph appear to be overlaid with a bar code. If you set the resolution to 150 dpi, no bar codes appear, but the printed fonts are the wrong size and of low quality.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with the HP DeskJet printer driver (HPDSKJET.DRV) versions 1.1 and 1.2. The problem was corrected in the HP DeskJet printer driver version 2.0, which is supplied with Microsoft Windows for Workgroups version 3.1.
