SYMPTOMS

When you try to add a user-defined control to a Windows Form in a Microsoft Windows application by using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, you receive the following error message:

Debug Assertion Failed message at atlwin.h line 2807

Additionally, Visual Studio may stop responding. This problem occurs when the user-defined control contains a Microsoft ActiveX Template Library (ATL) control.

Note This problem does not occur when you use Visual Studio .NET 2003.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of code in the built-in System.Windows.Forms.ErrorProvider class.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio 2005 service pack that contains this hotfix.
