SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Excel X for Mac closes unexpectedly when you open an .xla file in the Project Gallery. You may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
CAUSE
This problem occurs if there is no workbook open when you open the .xla file.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, open a blank workbook in Excel X for Mac before you open an .xla file.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
MORE INFORMATION
This problem does not occur in Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac. In Excel 2004 for Mac, you can open an .xla file in Project Gallery when there is no workbook open.
