SYMPTOMS

You experience gameplay issues with specific Xbox 360 games. These issues can include the following:

  • The Xbox game does not start
  • The game stops working during gameplay


CAUSE

Because the conditions of these issues can differ, we cannot state a cause that applies to all situations.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. If you are connected to Xbox Live check to see whether the game has an autoupdate. If the game has an autoupdate, check to see whether running the autoupdate fixes the issue. If running the autoupdate does not fix the issue, go to step 2.

    If you are not connected to Xbox Live, go to step 3.
  2. Determine whether the issue has occurred more than one time.
  3. Determine whether this is an Xbox Live issue. For example, does the issue only occur when you play the game on Xbox Live?
  4. Determine whether the Xbox 360 console is overheating. Make sure that nothing obstructs the console ventilation system.
  5. Make sure that the Xbox 360 console is set to the correct time and date.
  6. Use a different Xbox game disc in the console to determine whether the original disc is faulty.
  7. Try three different Xbox 360 games in the Xbox 360 console to flush the memory of the console. Try the original Xbox 360 game again.
  8. Remove all the unnecessary accessories from the console, and then test the Xbox 360 game again.
  9. Try the Xbox 360 game disc in another Xbox 360 console. If you cannot try the Xbox game disc in another Xbox console, exchange the Xbox 360 game disc at the retailer where you made the purchase.
  10. Because this issue may be related to memory, try to create a new Xbox 360 Profile. Then, test to see whether the issue still occurs.
  11. Try to delete or move the game save memory that is associated with the game. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Locate the System section in the Xbox 360 Dashboard.
    2. Select Memory.
    3. Select the memory device where the game is saved.
    4. Select Games.
    5. Select the profile that is used for the game.
    6. Select the affected game, and then delete the affected content. Try the game again.

      If you have a separate memory device like a memory unit, try moving the content of the affected device, and then try the game again.
  12. If the issue occurs with only one Xbox game and the disc is new, the problem is likely a faulty disc. Contact the retailer from whom you purchased the game to exchange the disc.
