INTRODUCTION

This article describes what occurs when changes that are made in a Groove Mobile Workspace for SharePoint and on the associated Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Web site cannot both be fulfilled.

MORE INFORMATION

Changes that are made in a Groove Mobile Workspace for SharePoint and on the associated Windows SharePoint Services Web site sometimes cannot be fulfilled when Groove synchronizes with the SharePoint Web site. When contradictory changes are made, Groove tries to preserve data. The following scenarios illustrate examples of how this behavior occurs:

  • You delete a discussion entry in a Groove Mobile Workspace for SharePoint. Then, you modify the same entry on the Windows SharePoint Services Web site before the next synchronization. In this scenario, Groove will restore the entry the second time that you synchronize with the Windows SharePoint Services Web site. Because Groove has already deleted that entry and all responses to that entry locally, synchronization will restore only the modified entry. Because the discussion entries did not change on the Windows SharePoint Services Web site, the responses to the entry will not be restored in Groove. If you want to restore the responses, you must edit each entry on the Windows SharePoint Services Web site before you synchronize with Groove.
  • You delete a discussion entry on the Windows SharePoint Services Web site. Then, you modify the same entry in the Groove Mobile Workspace for SharePoint. In this scenario, Groove retains the entry and its responses. Then, Groove restores the entry on the Windows SharePoint Services Web site. However, Groove cannot reassociate the responses with the deleted and restored entry on the Windows SharePoint Services Web site. Therefore, Windows SharePoint Services displays the responses at the top level of the discussion. When you view the discussion in Groove, the responses remain in the appropriate location.
  • You add a file to a folder from a Groove Mobile Workspace for SharePoint. Then, a Windows SharePoint Services user deletes that folder on the Windows SharePoint Services Web site. In this scenario, Groove preserves the data. Synchronization maintains a folder that contains both the original files and the new files in the Groove Mobile Workspace for SharePoint. Then, synchronization restores the folder to the Windows SharePoint Services Web site.
