INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Word 2002 issues that are fixed in the Word 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package that is dated February 20, 2006.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

  • Consider the following scenario. You open a Word 2002 document that is contained in a Web Folder. The server that contains the Web Folder is restarted after you open the document. When you try to save the document, it cannot be saved to its original location. In this scenario, when you select to merge the changes into the existing document, Word 2002 may close unexpectedly. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that is similar to the following error signature.

Application name Application version Module name Module version Offset
    Winword.exe 10.0.6764.0 Mso.dll 10.0.6735.0 0001845f
  • You run Word 2002 with Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3 installed. When you click a hyperlink to open a Word document, the document does not open. Additionally, Word 2002 may stop responding (hang). This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
    • The ForceShellExecute DWORD value of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet registry key is present in the Windows registry.
    • The value data of the ForceShellExecute DWORD value is set to 1.
