Error message when you use Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0: "Buffer overrun detected!"

Article ID: 915343

Article Last Modified on 3/27/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0

The hotfix that is discussed in this article is not available for the Chinese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM or for the Japanese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Buffer overrun detected!
Program: c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\w3wp.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program’s internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.

Note This scenario occurs on a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Information Services 6 (IIS 6). If you are running Internet Information Services 5 (IIS 5), the error references the inetinfo.exe file.

Microsoft has conducted an investigation into the cause of this error, and we can confirm that this overrun is not exploitable. Therefore, this error does not expose any security vulnerability.
