SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, when you build a Web application project that is checked out of Microsoft Visual SourceSafe, the .dll file and the .pdb file are checked in to the source control. Visual Studio 2005 may stop responding for up 10 minutes. This time delay may continue to increase every time that you build the Web application project. When you build the Web application project, you receive a message that is similar to the following for each .dll file and for each .pdb file in the Web application project:

Adding file c:\path-to-file\filename.dll to web

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio 2005 service pack that contains this hotfix.

The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

MORE INFORMATION

To enable this hotfix, you must delete the previously created build folders. Then, rebuild the Web application project.
